Reverend Dr. Maxwell M. Washington, pastor of St. Matthews Baptist Church, Washington, D.C., is a native of Fauquier County, Virginia and a product of the Fauquier County and Prince William County Public Schools. He is a 1972 graduate of the Washington Baptist Seminary and received his Bachelor's degree from the Luther Rice Bible College in 1983. He continued his education by earning a Master of Divinity degree in 1991 from the Richmond Virginia Seminary.
In August 2002, Dr. Washington earned a Doctorate of Ministry degree from the Trinity Bible College and Seminary in Newburgh, Indiana. In June 1968, the Jerusalem Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., licensed Dr. Washington to the Gospel Ministry. He was ordained in May 1969, and presented the Pulpit of the St. Matthews Baptist Church, Washington, D.C., in June 1969.
He is an active member of the following organizations: National Baptist Conventions, US, Inc; former President, Missionary Baptist Ministers' Conference of Washington, DC & Vicinity; former President of the Baptist Educational Congress of DC. & Vicinity; Board Member of the Baptist Convention of Washington, D.C. & Vicinity. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Association. He also serves as a board member for the Stoddard Baptist Home and the Missionary Baptist Ministers' Conference, Washington, D.C. & Vicinity.
Dr. Washington is the father of five children, the grandfather of nine, the Great- grandfather of three and the stepfather of one.
He and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Jessup, Maryland.
Most importantly, he is a child of God and he loves the Lord.
